Sandra Izbasa: “I’m thinking about the team, not the medal”

Olympic champion Sandra Izbasa, who has qualified in the floor final for the 2010 Gymnastics World Tournament, is not thinking about the gold medal, her goal being to help as much as she can the team in the Wednesday finals. Sandra Izbasa suffered serious injuries just one year before the Rotterdam World Tournament, her training recommencing at the beginning of this year. The Beijing Olympic Champion was pleasantly surprised by the warmth with which the public appreciated her performance:

"It was a nice competition with a very friendly public. I wasn’t expecting so many Romanians in the public. It helped me a lot and it certainly helped the qualification process. I have so much experience I could have returned 5 years after, my absence did not matter so much. I enjoyed myself and I am very happy for managing to return amongst the elites. I could do better but, overall, I managed and had the evolution I wanted."

Sandra Izbasa has managed to qualify in the floor exercise finals but she is not thinking about that medal but about helping the team in the Wednesday finals:

"My only wish is to finish this competition in good health. I am not thinking about medals, I’m here just to help the team and that’s it. I don’t know how things will work out for the team finals; I know, though, that we have a strong team, full of potential. I trust that the girls will become even more valuable in the future."

Izbasa is avoiding talking about the 2012 Olympic Games:

"My current objective is to participate at the Rotterdam World Tournament. My future decisions don’t depend on how I do here, but on what I will decide to do in the future. I don’t know what to say about London, whoever asks me that is taking it too far..."
